Margaret "Peg" Elizabeth Luper, 76, of Table Grove died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, at her home.

She was born June 19, 1927, in Avon, a daughter of Claire E. and Nettie R. Mills Bivens. She married Kenneth L. Luper on May 17, 1952, in Lompoc, Calif. He died Aug. 20, 1990.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Laurie Jean; and one granddaughter.

Surviving are one son, Jeffery (and Donna) of Avon; three daughters, Connie (and Artie) Boone of Knoxville, Kathy (and Russell) West of Galesburg and Susan (and Todd) Pudik of Lewistown; two brothers, William (and Theresa) Bivens of Galesburg and Robert (and Gayla) Bivens of Avon; two sisters, Marjorie McElhiney of Avon and Dorthy Strode of Longview, Texas; five grandchildren; one stepgrandson; one great-grandson; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was a long-distance phone operator for Intra State Telephone Co. in Galesburg and was a waitress at the Q Lunch Room at the Railroad Depot in Galesburg during World War II. She later worked for Nichols Poultry and Egg Co. until her marriage in 1952. She served as a news editor and photographer's aide at the Avon Sentinel for two years and then was a clerk at the Avon 5 Cent-$1 Store. She retired from NTN-Bower in 1989 after 17 years of service.

She had been active in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and was a tutor for a literacy program.

She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Homemakers Extension Association.

An avid bowler since 1960, she was a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress and the Macomb Bowling Association.

She was a member of Table Grove Community Church, where she served on various committees.

Services were held Tuesday at Corman Memorial Home in Avon. Burial was in Prairie City Cemetery in Prairie City.

Memorials may be made to Table Grove Rescue Squad or to her church.
