George A. Long Sr., 69, of Adair, died at 7:35 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 1997, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born on Oct. 25, 1927, in Macomb, a son of George Ray and Lucy Barker Long. He married Charlotte Phillips on Jan. 10, 1948, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Georgia (Jody) Robertson of Ipava; one son, George A. Long Jr. of Table Grove; three grandchildren, Kristie Jo Robertson, Chad Allen Long and Ellen Marie Long; one sister, Dorothy Thomson of Table Grove; and one brother, Robert (Bob) Long of Adair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Maxine Mullen; and two brothers, Junior and Raymond Long.

He lived all his life in the rural Adair area where he farmed until retiring in 1992. He was a member of the McDonough County Farm Bureau and the American Legion. He was an Army veteran serving from December 1951 to 1954.

Services were held Saturday at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Marshall Litchfield officiating. Burial was in the Harris Cemetery near Table Grove.

Memorials may be made to either the Adair Rescue Squad or the Table Grove Rescue Squad.
