James A. Kinne, 63, of Adair, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday, May 11, 1998, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Feb. 26, 1935, in Canton. He married Joyce K. Gray on Nov. 11, 1958 in Adair. She survives.

Illustrious Sir James became a member of Table Grove Masonic Lodge #939 in 1967. He was master for two years. He was a member of Peoria Valley Scottish Rite, Mohammed Temple of Peoria, Illinois Chapter Lusk #20 in Rushville, Council #88 in Beardstown and the Commandery #56 in Rushville.

At Mohammed Temple Shrine, he helped organize the Bug Unit in 1979 and was appointed Marshall by Barney Adkins in 1991 and had since progressed up the line.

Jim served in the U.S. Air Force in the Far East with the 1742nd Military Air Transport Service.

He worked in the Vermont Foundry as Leadman in the Machine Shop from 1958 to Oct. 3, 1966. He then went to work for Federal-Mogul Ball and Bearing Group in Macomb.

He was currently Project Engineer at NTN Bower. He advanced rapidly from Maintenance Mechanic to Maintenance Leadman to Maintenance Foreman. This soon included duties at Tool Room Foreman and Tool Crib Foreman and lead to a promotion to General Foreman of all Skilled Trades. His promotion of Nov. 1, 1989, gave him his current position of Project Engineer. His persistence and tenacity in attending machine training sessions covering new equipment and many classes at Western Illinois University in Engineering and Supervision responsibilities all led to the honor as Potentate.

He was also a past fireman with the Adair Fire Department.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Vermont United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. by the Vermont Lodge 116 AF & AM of which he was also a member. Burial will be in the Industry Cemetery with military rites by McDonough Post 6 American Legion of which he was a member.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or New Salem Rescue Squad.

He was born in Vermont, a son of Ruth Kinne Cuson, at the home of James L. and Victoria Bard Kinne, his grandparents. He married Joyce K. Gray on Nov. 11, 1958, in Adair. She survives.

Also surviving are two sisters, Janet Kay Parry of Vermont and Linda Sue Kingery of Mattoon; two aunts and two uncles, Frances (Dutch) Derry, Bertha (Tiny) Gough, Wycliff T. (Ted) Kinne, all of Vermont, and William W. (Bill) Kinne of Rockford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
