Doretta J. Jakoby, 89, of Astoria, formerly of West Peoria, died at 12:41 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 3, 1907, in Peoria, a daughter of Homer N. and Marie Laumeyer Sutton. She married Michael G. Jakoby Jr. on May 15, 1928, in Peoria. He died July 14, 1989, in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Peplow, an infant sister, one great-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter.
Surviving are one son, Michael G. Jakoby III of Manito; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley G. (Nancy) Gruber of Astoria, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. James (Mary) Trimpe of Havana; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and one sister, Lena Rhoades of Peoria Heights.
She was a secretary for Prudential Insurance Co. of Peoria. She last worked as a secretary-bookkeeper for the Peoria county Sheriff’s Department before retiring.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Peoria, the Catholic Women’s League and the Daughters of Isabella.
Services were held Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church (the former St. Boniface Church) in Peoria with Rev. Eugene Radosevich officiating. Entombment was in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or the West Peoria Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
