He was born July 15, 1944, in Macomb, a son of Clyde and Esther Shaffer Irwin. He married Vicki Pascal on Oct. 11, 2003. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Tim (and Ellen) Irwin of Lakeland, Fla., Brian (and Monica) Irwin of Bloomington, Mike Irwin of Jefferson City, Mo., and Joe (and Laura) Wilcox of Rincon, Ga.; three daughters, Janeile (and Jerry) Bainter, Jennifer (and Thurman) Fitch and Brooke (and Joe) Palmer, all of Lewistown; one brother, Dennis (and Shirley) Irwin of Lewistown; one sister, Dixie Mitchell of Cuba; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother-in-law, Vernon Mitchell.
He worked 35 years for IDOT in Peoria before retiring.
He was a sponsor of the local Humane Society.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Randy Munson officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the memorial home. Burial will be in Waterford Cemetery in rural Lewistown.
