Robert HeffrenRobert D. Heffren, 76, of Bryant died at 9:38 p.m. July 1, 2016, at his home.

He was born Sept. 19, 1939, at Enion, the son of Raymond and Bernadine Cooper Heffren. He married Irene Goulding in 1960 and she died in 1978. He then married Rose Etta Easley Smith on June 1, 1985. She died Sept. 16, 2011.

He also was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Surviving are seven children, Stephen (and Karen) Heffren of Harvel, Scott (and Kim) Smith of Macomb, Carman (and Gary) Thorne of O’Fallon, Mo., Brian Heffren of Springfield, Mark (and Ladonna) Heffren of Farmersville, Katherine (and E.J.) Prisby of Trivoli and Robin (and Lenny) Kaufmann of Canton; two sisters, Judy (and Jim) Wickert of Canton and Kathy (and Steve) Haffner of Canton; 28 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was a welder at Caterpillar, retiring in 1991. He also had served on the board of trustees for the Village of Bryant and had been their mayor and water clerk. He also had served on the Buckheart Township Cemetery Board.

He was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown where he had served as treasurer and deacon.

He was a member of the UAW Local 974.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at his church with Pastor Brant Reed officiating. Burial will be at Maryville Cemetery in Bryant. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.
