Imogene Hammond

Imogene HammondImogene E. Hammond, 91, of Ipava died at 10:45 a.m. Feb. 14, 2016, at Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center in Cuba.

She was born April 23, 1924, in Macomb, a daughter of Gail and Edith Kelly Taber. She married Gail Hammond on Jan. 5, 1946, in Ipava. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1989.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Marie Taber and Almalee Johnson.

Surviving are one daughter, Leta Shumaker of LaHarpe; one son, John Hammond of Ipava; two sisters, Caroline “Jack” (and Mike) Yazvec and Ann (and Clyde) Wys, both of Ipava; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Ipava Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she served as treasurer for 50 years. She also was a 4-H leader.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Kevin Kessler officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery at a later date.
