Vernon HendersonVernon R. “Shorty” Henderson, 90, of Lewistown died at 3:35 p.m. April 26, 2010, at Prairieview Care Center of Lewistown.

He was born Dec. 28, 1919, in Cuba, a son of Ross and Corda Casper Henderson. He married Anna Shank on March 9, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Leon (and Darla) Henderson of Lewistown and Jerry (and Karen) Henderson of Urbana, Ohio; one sister, Jean Bainter of Lewistown; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

He was a World War II Army veteran serving from 1942-1945.

He was a lifelong farmer before retiring.

He was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church of Lewistown.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Vermont Cemetery with Rev. Ray Greenfield officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown.
