Francis Herink

Francis Roy Herink, 88, of Canton died at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Sunset Manor in Canton.

He was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Canton, a son of Frank and Ana Spenny Herink. He married Frances A. Bybee on April 17, 1937, in Lewistown. She died Sept. 13, 1985. He married Margaret Otto in May 1987. She died in October 1995.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and James.

Surviving are one son, Richard (and Alice) of Canton; one daughter, Patricia (and Neil) Swartzbaugh of Mason; four grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; four great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and three brothers, Frank (and Jeanette) of Peoria, Arthur (and Wilma) of Vermont, and Homer "Bill" (and Margaret) of Canton.

He worked in the accounting department at International Harvester in Canton for 40 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the International Harvester Retirees Club and the Canton Works Club.

He was a volunteer for Graham Hospital, Spoon River Hospice, YWCA Nutrition Center, various nursing homes, Canton Chamber of Commerce and was treasurer of the Canton Sesquicentennial.

He was a lifetime member of Morning Star Lodge 734, AF&AM.

He was a member of Shields Chapel United Methodist Church in Canton.

Services were held Monday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home with Rev. Beth Nelson officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to his church or the YWCA Nutrition Center.
