Robert L. Hopping, 74, of Havana, died at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at his home.

He was born June 11, 1928, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, the son of Arlie and Florine McKinley Hopping. He married Barbara Workman on Oct. 29, 1949, in Havana. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Connie (and Brian) Whitacre of Omaha, Neb., Cathie (and Jerry) Toland of Bryan, Texas, and Cindy (and Kenneth) Keil of Bastrop, Texas; one son, Robert (and Michelle) of Mansfield, Mo.; one sister, Audrey (and Franklin) Dierker of Forest City; nine grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and six great-grandchildren.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was a deck hand for Ohio River Co. from 1958 to 1966 and later worked out of Laborers Local 231 in Pekin until retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Roadrunners Camping Club for 24 years, serving as treasurer for 20 years and president for the last four years.

He was a member of Havana Church of Christ.

Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Warren Hughes officiating. Burial was in Bluff City Cemetery in Bluff City, where military rites were conducted by Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Memorials may be made to Graham Hospital Hospice in Canton, Hickory-Kerton Fire Department in Bluff City or his church.
