Roy L. Heitz, 77, of Cuba died at 3 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born March 2, 1924, in Rushville, a son of Roy Rufus and Vernie Belle Jones Heitz. He married Eloise Phillips on Aug. 2, 1949, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Richard (and Marcia) of rural Cuba; two daughters, Charlotte (and Steve) Cowser of Bradford and Dianna (and Gary) Graham of Canton; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Heitz, and one grandson, Michael Cowser.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Russell Smith American Legion Post 533.

He worked for Canton Works, International Harvester Company, for 30 years before retiring. He also farmed in the Cuba area for the past 45 years.

He was of the Methodist faith.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at Henry-Lange Memorial Home with Rev. Nile Hill officiating. Burial was in the Rushville Cemetery, with military services conducted by his American Legion post.
