GERTRUDE B. (BARTLETT) HAMMOND

Gertrude Hammond

Gertrude B. Hammond, 81, of rural Astoria, died at 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, 1997, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Avon, a daughter of Ennis and Myrtle Bartlett. She married Lawrence Lester Hammond on Oct. 29, 1932. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1973. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, one sister, two brothers, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Maloney and Betty Hyde of Bushnell and Beverly Cox of Peoria; two sons, Bill Hammond of Bardolph and Jim Hammond of Astoria; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joanne Leggi of Phoenix, Ariz., Marylin Brown of Texas, Phyllis Ford and Margie Vorhees of Bardolph; and two brothers, Jim Bartlett and Eldi Lee Bartlett of Bushnell.

She was a member of the Astoria Christian Church. She was a cook at the Astoria Healthcare Center, retiring in 1983.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Astoria Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
