VeteranVernon Horwedel Of Vermont Dies

Vernon C. “Dutch” Horwedel, 89, of Vermont died at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 1990 at Wesley Health Care Center in Macomb.

He was born May 4, 1901, in Eldorado Township, McDonough County, a son of George C. and Constance Kelly Horwedel. He married Eunice S. Lybarger in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Raymond L. and Harold L., Portland, Ore.; two stepsons, Robert J. Lybarger of Vermont and Rollin E. Lybarger of Lewistown; one sister, Mrs. Gladys L. Kirkbride of Vermont; six step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

He was a World War II Army veteran. He formerly worked for Bader Elevator, Ken-Ray Foundry, Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad and was a guard at Camp Ellis.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28 at Vermont Cemetery with Rev. Donald Pratt officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Kost Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
