Lewis Hess was born in Germany, Oct. 1, 1823, and died at his home in Astoria township, Fulton county, Ill., Jan. 21, 1903, aged 79 years, 3 months and 20 days. He was married to Liddy Landon Nov. 30, 1851. There are 9 children, 4 boys and 5 girls. At one time he was a member of the Lutheran church. The funeral was held at Oak Grove church Jan. 22. R. R. Lackey preached the sermon to a large congregation. The body was buried in the Oak Grove cemetery.

At one time he was a member of the Lutheran church. The funeral was held at Oak Grove church Jan. 22. A large concourse of people were present. Rev. R. R. Lackey preached the sermon.
