JOSEPH HOLLINGER

Obituary.

Joseph Hollinger was born near Harrisburg, Penn., Feb. 6, 1819, and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. D. Gruber, in this city, Jan. 24, 1900. He was married to Elizabeth Balsbaugh, about the age of 25, and soon after became a member of the German Baptist Brethren church. Several years later he was elected to the ministry and served in that capacity till 1881, when he came to Astoria and was soon ordained as a bishop. He leaves a wife and three children, Mrs. J. D. Gruber, and Mrs. P. W. Etter, of this locality and A. B. Hollinger, of Fairfield, Ill., and quite a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends in and out of the church where he was much beloved and a most prominent worker. He had been quite ill for two weeks previous to his death and the family wish to express their thanks to the many kind friends and neighbors who rendered kindness. The funeral was conducted by the home ministers on Friday last.
