Virgil GobelVirgil Dean Gobel, 84, of Browning died at 6:40 p.m. May 5, 2017, at his residence.

He was born May 31, 1932, at home at Kelly Lake Drainage area in Hickory Township near Browning, a son of William and Effie Moss Gobel. He married Elsie Weishaar on Dec. 30, 1950, in Browning. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia (and Dayle) Bucher of Bedford, Iowa, and Nancy (and Daniel) Cox of Rushville; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, David Gobel; two great-granddaughters; three brothers, Wilmer, Elmer and William; and two sisters, Elma and Cassie.

He was a commercial fisherman, pushed duck hunters, worked road construction and was a carpenter.

He was a member of Browning Assembly of God Church, Modern Woodmen of America and Jacksonville Local Laborers Union.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at his church with Rev. Wayne Curless officiating. Burial will follow in Sheldons Grove Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
