Harold GreeneHarold Greene, 83, of LaPrairie died at 6:17 a.m. April 11, 2012, at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

He was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Camden Township, Schuyler County, a son of F. Merle and Lena E. Schieferdecker Greene. He married Mary Beth Hester on Aug. 17, 1951, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one nephew, Steve Hester of Macomb and one niece, Debbie Thompson of Rushville, both of whom he raised, and their children, Addie Cassidy, Kayla, Colton and Karli Hester; and two brothers, Frank Greene of Springfield and Maurice (and Joan) Greene of Colchester.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle Greene; and one sister, Anna Belle Greene.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He served 17 months at Camp Lucas, in St. Marie, Mich.

He was a lifelong farmer and for six years he worked as a security guard at Black Beauty Coal Mine.

He was a member of Camden United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Camden Masonic Lodge AF and AM #648.

Services were held Saturday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Bob Leenerts officiating. Burial was in Huntsville Cemetery, with military rites by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and Camden Masonic Lodge AF and AM #648.
