MAE M. (BREHM) BROWN GORDON

Mae Gordon

Mae M. Gordon, 90, of Monmouth, formerly of Astoria, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at Monmouth Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 18, 1915, in Astoria, a daughter of Joseph and Laura (Danner) Brehm. She married Melvin "Doc" Brown on Dec. 23, 1933, in Macomb. She later married Glenn "Ike" Gordon on Nov. 15, 1953, in Beardstown. He died Dec. 31, 1997.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Toler, Melvin and Milfred Brehm; and one grandson.

Surviving are three daughters, Edith (and Clarence) Shawgo of Cambridge, Glenda (and Jim) McCormick of Springfield, Mo., and Carol (and Darryl) Ricketts of Roseville; one son Mel "Jr." (and Carrie) Brown Jr. of Lake Oswego, Ore.; one sister, Naomi Heath of Astoria; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She and her husband, "Ike," were owners and operators of a drive-in restaurant in front of their home in Astoria for several years in the 1960s and were also owners and operators of Gordon Cleaners in Astoria for 33 years.

She was a member of Astoria American Legion Auxiliary Post 25 and Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren in rural Astoria as a youth and later was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church.

She belonged to a bowling league for many years.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Randy Whitmire officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in rural Astoria.
