Lyle Gossage

Lyle E. Gossage, 83, of Rushville, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 1996, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 31, 1913, in Browning, a son of Roy and Eliza Steele Gossage. He married Louise Bankes on May 22, 1937, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Betty Horlick and Mrs. James (Karen) Hopkins, both of Rushville; one brother, Howard Gossage of Rushville; one sister, Lula Casares of Visalia, Calif.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

He was a coal miner for 30 years for the former Tomlinson Coal Co. He then was a mechanic for Burlington Truck Lines in St. Louis for 19 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the former East Union Baptist Church in Pleasant View.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Goodhope Cemetery north of Rushville with Rev. Roger Simpson officiating.

Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
