Dr. Kenneth FaganDr. Kenneth Fagan, 78, of Dardenne Prairie, Mo., formerly of Astoria, died June 17, 2014, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born Dec. 3, 1935, the son of Kenneth and Farrol VanCleave Fagan Sr. He was raised by his grandparents, George and Lula Irwin of Astoria, since his parents died at an early age. He married Melinda D. Fagan on Aug. 1, 1964, in Hull. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Kennan (and Lisa) Fagan of Troy and Kevin (and Angela) Fagan of Mount Sterling; one daughter, Kimberly (and Joseph) Bogue of O’Fallon, Mo.; two sisters, Marylou Kerr of Macomb and Sherry (and Jack) Lane of Harrisburg; and seven grandchildren.

He graduated high school from Astoria in 1954. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and served for four years. Upon discharge, he lived in Ipava for a short time and then moved to Quincy where he was employed at Illinois Soldiers and Sailors Home in the Adjutants Office. During this time, he also served as a warrant officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. He earned his undergraduate degree at Quincy University, graduate degree at Truman State University, Doctoral degree at American University. He moved to Barry in 1996 where he lived and worked at Barry public school. He retired as a teacher and school administrator in 1993. He relocated to Kansas and worked for Atchinson public schools before relocating to Moberly and working as a school administrator at Westran Junior High before retiring. He retired near his family in O’Fallon, Mo.

He was in the United States Air Force from 1955-58 with a rank of A/1C (P).

He was a member of Shriner’s International and PASA Park Shooting Club.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Aaron Foster officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by Astoria American Legion Post #25.
