Virginia FloydVirginia C. Floyd, 81, of Rushville, formerly of Springfield, died at 10:20 p.m. April 21, 2012, at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Springfield, a daughter of John and Catherine Poveriski Sokolis. She married Kenneth L. Floyd on May 21, 1945, in Palmyra, Mo. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jerald (and Ruth Ann) Floyd of Halfway, Mo., Larry Lance (and Carla) Floyd of Rushville and Kenneth Allen Floyd of Springfield; one daughter, Jeanette (and Kim "Mickey") Plaster of Sherman; one brother, Robert (and Wanda) Sokolis of Springfield; one sister, Margaret Campo of Modesto, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, William, Herman and Richard Sokolis; and five sisters, Katie Simpson, Elfreida Riley, Edna Sherman, Martha Vaughn and Esther Cullen.

She worked on the assembly line for Sangamo Electric for 23 years. She also operated a day care at her home for over 38 years.

She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served as president of the Day-Care Mothers Association in Springfield.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend John Sowers officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.
