John R. Foster, 73, of Canton died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born April 20, 1929, in Trivoli, a son of Arthur and Ethel M. Baker Foster. He married Daisy C. Kidd on July 29, 1951, in Pittsfield. She died Aug. 1, 1999.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Surviving are three sons, David (and Dena) of Canton, Dr. Thomas (and Celeste) of Dunlap and Daniel (and Gwenda) of Liberal, Kan.; one daughter, Jaehnae Foster of Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold of rural Astoria.

A Korean War Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 16.

He worked at Brownies D/X Service Station, St. Clair Grocery Store and Kroger. He retired from Canton Union School Dist. 66.

He was a member of the Spoon River Scenic Drive.

Services were held Tuesday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home with Gene Danner officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
