Virgil France

Virgil A. France, 87, of Industry died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born July 20, 1913, in Vermont, a son of Earnest and Chloe Stone France. He married Geraldine Hughes on Aug. 9, 1933, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Bob (and Gladys) of Industry, Phillip (and Judy) of Orlando, Fla., and Marlin (and Elaine) of Macomb; two daughters, Sue (and Ron) Hay of Knoxville, Tenn., and Linda (and Allen) Robinson of Palmyra, Mo.; one brother, Merle of Tennessee; five sisters, Jean Heavenridge of Henrico, N.C., Dorothy Knight of Quincy, Wilma Bassett of Macomb, Phyllis Martin of Vermont and Ilene Rogers of Canton; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, one brother and one sister.

He was a farmer.

After retiring, he worked in the maintenance department at Everly House in Macomb and drove a school bus for the Macomb School Dist.

He served on the Calvary Christian Academy School Board.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Macomb, where he served as a deacon.

Services were held today at 10 a.m. at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Randall Whitmire officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery in Vermont.
