James EwingJames A. Ewing, 80, of Rushville died at 9:15 a.m. May 16, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Webster, Iowa, a son of Ralph and Annie Settles Ewing. He married Aileen King on June 15, 1946, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Steve (and Patty) of Rushville and Greg (and Debbie) of Colchester; one sister, Margaret King of Rushville; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Jane Black, Mildred Waters and Mary Engelhardt; and three brothers, Glen, Don and Bill.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II.

He farmed in his early years and worked 35 years for Bartlow Brothers Meat Packing, retiring as sales manager.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rushville.

He served as an alderman on the Rushville City Council and was a member of Schuyler School Board for many years. He was a founding member of the Rushville Little League and worked the yard markers at Rushville High School football games for many years.

Services were held Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Mary and Rev. Paul Arnold officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
