Gerald E. DeMott, 66, of Colchester died at 6:24 a.m. March 29, 2012, at his residence.

He was born March 28, 1946, in Mound Township, McDonough County, a son of Ross E. and Doris A. Hayden DeMott. He married Joyce Beaver Bowman on Oct. 3, 1966, in Missouri. He later married Sue Tingley on Jan. 19, 1986.

Surviving are one daughter, Teresa Lynn Dittman of Macomb; two brothers, Roger (and Miriam) DeMott of Webster, N.Y., and David (and Lauri) DeMott of Ipava; four sisters, Beverly (and Lloyd) Mason of Industry, Lois Richardson of Temecula, Calif., Vonetta (and Evan) Morgan of Ipava and Marjorie (and George) Long of Adair; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one special friend, Barb Mason.

He lived most of his life in McDonough County where he worked as a herdsman and cattleman for Lowderman Cattle Company. He also worked in Walnut Grove selling feed for Kelly Equipment and drove a truck over the road for Heil Trucking and Munson Trucking.

He was a Navy veteran serving in the Seabees from 1966-72.

He was a life member of Macomb VFW.

Services were held Tuesday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Reverend A. Lee Unger officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery where full military rites were conducted by Macomb VFW and Macomb American Legion.
