Jane DeWitt

Jane DeWittJane Ann DeWitt, 72, of Rushville died at 8 p.m. Nov. 13, 2011, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Rushville, a daughter of William Ashwood and Hazel Ruth Vogler Crum. She married Gerald "Jake" DeWitt on Nov. 18, 1956, in rural Schuyler County. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1994.

She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Cpl. Michael DeWitt.

Surviving are two sons, Roger (and Shelley) DeWitt of Blandinsville and Albert (and Michelle) DeWitt of Jacksonville; two daughters, Teresa Elisabeth of Seattle, Wash., and Diana (and Tom) Lashbrook of Rushville; three sisters, Vera Hammerslough of Champaign and Ruby (and Leon) Passmore and Becky Crum, both of Rushville; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She worked as a telephone operator for Western Union, a cook for Culbertson Hospital, a clerk at South Side Hardware and as an assistant in Dr. Smith's Chiropractic office.

She was a member of Rushville Free Methodist Church board, a member of Emmaus Community, Class Reunion group planner and she remained active in many other church and community groups.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rushville Free Methodist Church with Rev. Rose Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville.
