Mary Dietz

Mary DietzMary J. Dietz, 94, of Lewistown died at 2:13 p.m. Feb. 14, 2007, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born July 9, 1912, in Lewistown, a daughter of Theral W. and Elsie P. Murphy Nate. She married Clarence J. Dietz on Aug. 24, 1940, in Peoria. He died Oct. 10, 1993.

She also was preceded in death by one son, David; one daughter, Martha Scrogum; and three sisters.

Surviving are one brother, James Nate of San Diego, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was a schoolteacher for several years at the former Hulvey School in rural Lewistown. She also worked at the former Block & Kuhl Department Store and Roselle’s Ice Cream Store, both in Peoria. She also owned and operated a restaurant in Lewistown, and sat with and assisted elderly people.

Services were held Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Sue Roat officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
