Homer O. Downs, 70, of Rushville died at 11:25 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Bader, a son of Marvin and Beula H. Beam Downs. He married Vada Kirkham on Jan. 8, 1956, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth (and Debbie) of Beardstown, and Chris (and Barbara) and Darrin, both of Rushville; one brother, Marvin (and Catherine) of Rockford; three sisters, Maxine Shelts of Camden, Julia "Betty" (and Arvis) Foster of Peoria, and Erma June Downs of Crescent City; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amanda "Mandi" Downs.

An Army veteran, he was stationed in London during the Korean Conflict.

He farmed for 21 years before working at Dana Foundry in Havana, where he was a foreman. He then worked at Porcelain Products in Macomb for 21 years until his retirement March 1, 2003.

He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Rushville.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Robert Kirkham and Rev. Rosalee Ross officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Schuyler Chapter of American Cancer Society or to the Amanda Downs Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Rushville State Bank.
