BEULA H. (BEAM) DOWNS

Beula Downs

Beula H. Downs, 92, of Rushville died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 1996, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 28, 1903, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Homer and Edith Johnson Beam. She married Marvin R. Downs on March 15, 1924, in Rushville. He died Dec. 24, 1994. One brother, one sister and two great-grandchildren also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Homer O. Downs of Rushville and Marvin R. Downs of Rockford; three daughters, Mrs. Russell Shelts of Camden, Mr. Arvis (Julia “Betty”) Foster of Peoria and Mrs. Vernon (Erma June) Downs of Crescent City; one sister, Julia M. Gilson of Galesburg; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She attended Western Illinois Teacher’s College. She taught at Center School in Bainbridge Township.

She was a member of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church and was a district officer of WSCS for many years.

Funeral services were held this morning at Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Robert Kirkham officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
