She was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Browning Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Ansel and Irene Smith Stroops. She married Jacob Verne Crone on June 10, 1956, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 2018.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth E. Stroops.
Surviving are one daughter, Colleen Crone of Quincy; one sister, Charlotte Stroops of Jacksonville; one nephew, Kenneth B. (Ken) Stroops of Springfield; one niece, Teresa Gustafson of East Peoria; and several cousins.
She attended Ridgeville and Browning grade schools and graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1952. She worked for eight years as a secretary for Country Companies Insurance from 1952-60. She was later employed for 21 years as the secretary for First United Methodist Church from 1977 until retirement in 1998.
She was a member of Rushville First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women serving as secretary of the UMW Executive Board for a number of years. She also served as treasurer of the Schuyler County Food Basket for several years.
Funeral services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Stacy Tomich officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
