Wayne CurlessWayne L. Curless, 80, of Astoria died at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 11, 2019, at his home.

He was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Bluff City, a son of Leo and Eva Thompson Curless. He married Betty Estes on June 10, 1961, in Bluff City. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Tonya (and Darryl) Holmes of Ipava and Wanette (and Tom) Dwyer of Clinton; three sisters, Judy Brennan of Havana, Pauline (and Dick) Atchley of Lewistown and Janie (and Jess) Atterberry of Sherman; one brother, Paul (and Betty) Curless of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He retired from Navistar. He also was a retired minister. As a minister, he volunteered at the prison in Canton for 19 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy from age 17 to 21. In the Navy, he worked in the boiler room of a Naval Destroyer Ship. After the service, he was a member of the Peoria VA.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Harry Ellison officiating. The Astoria American Legion will provide military rites. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
