Chester Chipman

Chester ChipmanChester C. “Chet” Chipman, 95, of Lewistown died at 5:40 a.m. Nov. 27, 2009, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.

He was born Aug. 30, 1914, in Lewistown, a son of Elza R. and Eula A. Pratt Chipman. He married Viola A. Hay on Oct. 6, 1938, in Vermont. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Dean E. (and Sandy) Chipman of Ipava and Eldon L. (and Linda) Chipman of Lewistown; two daughters, Karen A. (and Jack) Lofton of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Kathryn S. (and Jeff Hadsall) Chipman of Lewistown; one sister, Elizabeth Welch of Lewistown; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Roger and Orin Chipman; one brother, Ray Chipman; one grandson, Richard Bolender; and one great-grandson, Michael Bolender.

He was a farmer and had worked at Letourneau and Caterpillar. He also drove for Star Delivery for several years.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown.

He was a former member of Canton Moose Lodge, Illinois State Stock Horse Association and several saddle clubs.

Services were held Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Ray Greenfield officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
