Josiah ChockleyJosiah (Joe) W. Chockley, 73, of Oneida died at 5:10 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.

He was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Ray, a son of Joe D. and Lela VanFossen Chockley. He married Sharon Keefauver on June 14, 1958, in Springfield. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Gregory (and Bobbi) Chockley of Galesburg and David Chockley of Davenport, Iowa; one brother, Marvin (and Gayla) Chockley of Lewistown; two sisters, Lois (and Lou) Culver of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Marge Chockley of St. Louis, Mo.; his mother, Lela Chockley of Rushville; and three grandchildren.

The couple has resided in the Galesburg and Oneida area since.

He served in the United States Army as a Field Artillery Crewman in 1955 and 1956 stationed in Germany.

He graduated from VIT High School in Table Grove in 1953.

He worked at W.A. Jordan Co. and Tobler Transfer in Galesburg and Roadway Express in Rock Island before retiring in 1998.

He was a 40-year Teamster member. He served the membership of the Teamster organization in many capacities including as an executive board officer and president and principal officer of Teamsters Local 15 in Galesburg for many years.

He was a 25-year member of Oneida American Legion, a charter member of Little John Conservation Club near Victoria and Teamsters Local 371 Retirees Club in Rock Island.

He was a member of Vermont Christian Church.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by Abingdon American Legion Post #381.
