Joe Chockley

Joe D. Chockley, 81, of Galesburg, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at 8:10 a.m. at his residence.

He was born March 4, 1916 in Ray, a son of Paris and Mary Engle Chockley. He married Lela VanFossen on Feb. 25, 1935 in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Joe W. Chockley of Oneida and Marvin Chockley of Lewistown; two daughters, Lois Culver of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Marjorie Chockley of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Victor Chockley of Camden.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin "Mose" Chockley.

He retired from Admiral Plant in Galesburg in 1980 after 20 years of employment. He was a member of IOOF Lodge #79 in Vermont and was a member of the Vermont Christian Church.

Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at his church with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial will be in the Vermont Cemetery. Visitation will be held this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kost Memorial Home, Vermont.
