Ralph D. Churchill, 67, of rural Ellisville died at 9 p.m. Friday, June 16, 1995, in rural Ellisville.

He was born May 12, 1928, in Canton to Arthur and Esther “Mazie” McKean Churchill. He married Carol I. Grubb on May 14, 1949, in Springfield, She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, John Arthur of Lewistown, Harold D. of Ellisville and Carl A. of Wichita Falls, Texas; five daughters, Mrs. Doug (Cheryl) Martindale and Mrs. Joe (Holly) Thum, both of Smithfield, Mrs. Jerry (Janice) Johnson of Whitesville, Ky., Mary Hammond of Cuba and Deborah Churchill of Canton; one brother, Edward of Ipava; two sisters, Eleanor “Effie” Mills and Helen Courtney, both of Canton; and 15 grandchildren. Twin daughters Judith and Joan, and one brother preceded him in death.

He worked for Truax Trayer. He then worked at Consol Coal Co., for 40 years, retiring in 1987. He later worked at the Kellogg Dock near Medoc. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 7110, where he served as vice president. He also was a member of Illinois State Stock Horse Association, for which he was a judge. An Army veteran, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5001 in Lewistown and American Legion Post 533 in Cuba. He was a member of Cuba Masonic Lodge 534 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 784. He also was a member of Fiatt Christian Church in Fiatt.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Oaks-Hines Funeral home in Canton with Rev. Rodney Rubergg officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Memorials may be made to Santa Jo’s Workshop in Canton or to Spoon River Hospice of Graham Hospital in Canton. Masonic services were held.
