Charles Bud Briney, 84, of Astoria died at 10:06 a.m. Feb. 8, 2022, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Oct. 12, 1937, in Bluff City. He married Betty Lou Parry on Oct. 5, 1958, in Beardstown. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2006.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Kelly McCombs.

Surviving are one son, Neal (and Angie) Briney of Astoria; one brother, Ron (and Barbara) Briney of New Braunfels, Texas; one sister, Kay (and Greg) Ripp of Hubertus, Wis.; three grandchildren, Kayla (and Matt Stambaugh) McCombs, Tayler (and Tiffany Harn) Briney and Trenton (and Dacey Malott) Briney; one great-grandchild; and three step great-grandchildren.

He served in the United States National Guard as a Military Policeman.

He was a life-long farmer in the Bluff City area. He was a member of the Astoria Lions Club, the Elks Club, the Astoria American Legion Post #25 and was a Shriner. He was a former member and president of the Astoria School Board.

Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation. Graveside services were held Saturday at the Astoria Cemetery with Pastor Gary Sheets officiating. Military rites were provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made in Bud’s memory to the Astoria Lions Club or the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
