Gary Clark Briney, 77, died Aug. 23, 2017, at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He was born May 29, 1940, in Canton, a son of Grover Woodrow and Meryle Rose Briney.
Surviving are his wife, Emily; two daughters, Amanda Innes of Connecticut and Rebecca Briney of New York; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kent Lee Briney of Illinois.
After earning his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at the University of Iowa, he worked for DuPont as a research scientist for more than 40 years.
Services will be private. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh is in charge of arrangements.
