Junior S. Brown, 79, of Astoria died at 11:13 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

He was born May 3, 1923, in Bluff City, the son of Perry Taylor and Sibyl Mae Shaw Brown. He married Mary Lou Smith on Dec. 21, 1946, in Bushnell. She died Feb. 1, 2000.

He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter Chelsey Jones.

Surviving are two daughters, Debbie (and Greg) Parker of Hurst, and DeAnna (and William) Jones of Astoria; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Darlene Camp of Eustis, Fla., and Nyda (and Irvin) Adcock of Vermont.

He worked for Broadway Super Service, Bader & Co., Skiles Fertilizer and retired from Astoria Ready Mix Co., all in Astoria.

He was a member and past commander of Astoria American Legion Post #25, and a distinguished member of the Astoria Fire Department.

He was a World War II Army veteran and received two purple hearts in action on Wake Island in the South Pacific War Theater.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Greg Parker officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
