Benjamin Barnes

Benjamin “Bennie” F. Barnes, 89, of Brookville, Ohio, formerly of Astoria, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Brook Haven Nursing and Care Center in Brookville.

He was born Nov. 24, 1909, in Summum, a son of Oliver and Bertha Sowers Barnes. He married Mary Johnson on Dec. 11, 1933, near Bader. She died in January 1974. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Raymond and Carroll; and three sisters, Mary, Dorothy and Ollidean.

Surviving are one son, Wayne of Greenville, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. David (Marilyn) Flora of Brookville and Mrs. Leon (Ruth) Rogers of Greenville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Lefler of Lewistown; and one brother, Lyle Harmon of Aledo.

He was a self-employed farmer and carpenter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mud Valley Church, south of Astoria, where visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Mud Valley Cemetery, south of Astoria. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Brookville Rescue Squad.
