Lyle HarmonLyle Harmon, 88, of rural Aledo died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Trinity Medical Center West Campus in Rock Island.

He was born Sept. 24, 1916, in Summum, a son of Harvey and Bertha Sowers Harmon. He married Darlene Harkey on Sept. 15, 1951, in Rock Island. She died Sept. 20, 2004.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Colleen Harmon; one brother; two sisters; three half brothers; and two half sisters.

Surviving are one son, Dale (and Kelly) Harmon of Moline; three daughters, Amy (and Bruce) Hunt of Coal Valley, Eileen (and Larry) Tysma of Hillsdale, and Melanie (and David) Flickenger of Milan; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He attended National Youth Association's vocational school in Mattoon.

He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He worked as a precision grinder at the Montgomery Elevator Co. escalator plant for 19 years, retiring in 1980. He previously worked for J.I. Case in Rock Island for 16 years, and at the Rock Island Arsenal for two years.

He attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milan.
