Services are pending at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.

Willis E. “Bill” Baker, 74, of Vermont, died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1995, at his home.

He was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Astoria, a son of Galen J. and Edith Krout Baker. He married Marjorie Parr on July 27, 1940, in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Gael of Hamilton, Bill of Canton and John of Galesburg; four daughters, Mrs. Alan (Patricia) Hughes and Mrs. David (Rita) Cassel, both of Astoria, Mrs. Dennis (Leticia) Farr of Springfield and Mrs. Jon (Ketra) Branson of Ipava; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Loren of Good Hope and Norman of Littleton, Colo. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

He was a carpenter and later worked at Amax Coal Co. in Vermont for more than 20 years. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Carrol Rankin American Legion Post 26 in Vermont. He was a member of the Vermont Volunteer Fire Department and the United Mine Workers of America.

He also was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church, where services were held Friday with Rev. Jill Johnson-Scott and Rev. Donald Pratt officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.
