VeteranF. W. Billingsley Died Following an Operation

Festus W. Billingsley of Beardstown died suddenly Monday morning at 8:30 o’clock at Our Savior hospital in Jacksonville, following an operation for appendicitis to which he submitted last Friday.

Mr. Billingsley was a son of Mrs. Rachel Billingsley of this city. He was taken to Jacksonville Thursday night and underwent an operation. Other complications, it is said, set in following the operation.

The young man visited his mother here only a week ago Sunday. The announcement of his death came as a severe shock, not only to his mother and other relatives but his many friends as well.

The deceased was 33 years of age. He was employed in the car repair shop of the Burlington at Beardstown, which position he has held for seven years.

He was united in marriage to Miss Gwendolyn Shelly of Sheldons Grove on May 15, 1926, who survives him, together with his mother and the following brothers and sisters: Seth of Casper, Wyo., Clarence of Frederick, Lester of Detroit and Mrs. Goldie Ashwood of Adair.

He was a member of the K. of P. lodge in Astoria, and was also a World War veteran, having seen service in Europe for eight months. He was also a member of the American Legion at Beardstown.

Funeral services will be held in Astoria Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the M. E. church, Rev. W. H. Day officiating. Interment in Astoria cemetery.
