He was born March 8, 1942, in Ipava, a son of Harley and Margaret Ashton Atwater. He married Karen S. Lasswell on Oct. 26, 1963, in Lewistown. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Steve Atwater and Becky Coleman, both of Lewistown, and Billy (and Vicki) Atwater of Cuba; one brother, Jerry Atwater of Ipava; one sister, Marilee Casper of Canton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Terry, Billy and Arlan Atwater; and one sister, Martha Bloyd.
He worked at Caterpillar, retiring after 32 years. He also was a house painter for many years. He was a member of UAW Local 974.
Cremation will be accorded. The family will plan a Celebration of Life at a later date. Henry Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.
