William “Bill” S. Ackley Jr., 71, of Vermont died at 11:37 p.m. June 20, 2023, at Graham Hospital in Canton.William “Bill” S. Ackley Jr., 71, of Vermont died at 11:37 p.m. June 20, 2023, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born April 29, 1952, in Alexandria, Va., a son of William S. and Pearl Kalp Ackley Sr. He married Sharon Mahan on May 16, 1971, in Vermont. She preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2022.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margret Wright and Tina Bundy; and one great-grandchild, Brayden Baker.
Surviving are one daughter, Lisa (and Darin) Kreps of Vermont; one twin brother, Jim (and Vicky) Ackley of Vermont; three sisters, Karen Cole of Las Vegas, Nev., DeeAnn Fromm of Peoria and Mary Watson of Bloomington; one grandchild, Chelsea (and Tyler Baker) Ackley of Vermont; one great-grandchild, Dawsyn Baker; and several nieces and nephews.
He worked as a farm hand for the Arnett’s in Lewistown. He worked as an iron pourer at Dana Corp in Havana. When Dana Corp closed, he worked as a mechanic and detailed cars for Frye Auto Sales in Vermont. He later obtained a CDL license and became an over-the-road truck driver for Wabash Transportation.
Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial was at Vermont Cemetery.
