Richard “Rick” Ashcraft

Richard AshcraftRichard E. “Rick” Ashcraft, 71, of Rushville died at 1:30 a.m. Oct. 23, 2021, at his home.

He was born July 5, 1950, in Rushville, the son of Richard and Ailene Smith Ashcraft. He married Carolyne Howard on Nov. 16, 1968, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jamie (and Susan) Ashcraft of Rushville; seven grandchildren, Cody (and Amelia) Ashcraft, Hunter (and fiancée Taylor) Ashcraft, Jake Ashcraft, Tanner Ashcraft, Ava Ashcraft, Hannah Esther and Phillip Esther; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Ricky Ashcraft and Michael Ashcraft.

He was a 1969 graduate of Rushville High School. He first worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department. In 1974, he began working for Amax Coal north of Rushville. He joined his dad at Rick and Rich’s in 1983, and took over ownership in 1985. He operated the family business until selling the bar to his son Jamie in 2013.

He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville, the Beardstown Elks Lodge and Ducks Unlimited.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Rushville City Cemetery with Pastor Jason Triplett and Reverend Fred Fritz officiating. Wood Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
