Terry AllenTerry LaVern Allen, 74, of Camden died at 11:36 p.m. Dec. 13, 2017, at his home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1943, in Schuyler County, a son of Gilbert E. and Julia A Prunty Allen. He married Lela Irene Gabbert on Sept. 10, 1963, in Camden. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Tela Su (and Ken) Montgomery of Mount Sterling, Tony Lee (and fiancée Bev Crenshaw) Allen of Rushville and Leslie LaVern (and friend Susan Pittman) Allen of Frederick; one brother, Jerry Allen of Quincy; two sisters, Norma Kindhart and Judy Robeson, both of Rushville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ferris “Bud” Allen.

He enlisted with the U.S. Army and served from 1962-64, stationed in Orleans, France.

He began his life work as a farmhand then as a feed mill operator for Schuyler-Brown FS and Schuyler Grain. While at Schuyler Grain, he, Lela and Tony operated three dry fertilizer spreading trucks from 1977-81, selling the trucks due to Terry’s health. He retired in January 2008 from Schuyler Brown FS. In retirement, he farmed for Dennis Billingsley.

He served as president of the Camden Village for eight years and trustee for 12 years. During that time, he helped form the Camden-Littleton Water Commission, being a commissioner for 27 years.

He attended Camden United Methodist Church.

Services were held Monday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Charles Peart III and Pastor Charla Meyers officiating. Burial followed in the Camden West Cemetery, with military rites by the U.S. Army Burial Detail and the Schuyler American Legion Post #4.
