Velma E. Atherton, 96, of Lewistown died at 10:27 a.m. Dec. 6, 2006, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.
She was born March 24, 1910, in Fulton County, a daughter of Frank and Rosella Hoyle Beaird. She married Donald V. Atherton on July 13, 1929, in Lewistown. He died Aug. 21, 1975.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert L. Beaird and William Frank Beaird.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna J. (and Roland) Turner of Lewistown; one son, John D. (and Phyllis) of Lewistown; one brother, Donald E. (and Lorena) Beaird of Vermont; one sister, Marjory Lindsey of Havana; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She retired from Graham Hospital after 16 years of service.
She was a member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001 Auxiliary and First Christian Church of Canton.
Services were held Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Keith Jones officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
