W. Frank Beaird, 79, of Lewistown died at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Prairie View Care Center in Lewistown.

He was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Bernadotte, a son of Frank and Rose Ella Hoyle Beaird. He married Charolette Welker on Jan. 14, 1948, in Cuba. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Gary of Lewistown; one stepdaughter, JoAnne (and Franklin) Hess of St. David; two sisters, Velma Atherton of Lewistown and Marge Lindsay of Havana; one brother, Donald of Vermont; two grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert "Cork" Beaird; two stepsons; and one stepgrandson.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6408 in Havana and Harold C. Hoopes American Legion Post 17 in Ipava.

A member of United Auto Workers Local 974 in Peoria, he worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1984.

He also was a member of Moose Lodge 784 in Canton.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lewistown, where a funeral mass was held Tuesday with Rev. James Fedosuk officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, where military rites were accorded by his VFW and American Legion posts. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church or the Lewistown Fire and Rescue Squad.
