John Atherton

John D. Atherton, 77, of Lewistown died at 5:16 a.m. Aug. 3, 2011, at Graham Hospital.

He was born Nov. 2, 1933, in Canton, the son of Donald V. and Velma E. Beaird Atherton.

Surviving are one son, John Michael Atherton of Pinellas Park, Fla.; two daughters, Tyrrell (and Larry) Whitman of Lewistown and Kathy (and Fred) Selders of Silver City, N.M.; one sister, Donna J. (and Roland) Turner of Lewistown; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He served in the United States Navy.

He retired from International Harvester in Rock Island.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Canton, and a member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Pastor Eric Sawyer officiating. Military rites were accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown was in charge of arrangements.
