Alice “Leona” Weime

Leona WeimeAlice Leona Cregger Weime, 89, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., died Jan. 18, 2025.

She was born in August 1935, in Kirkwood, a daughter of Wayne P. and Ellen Cregger. She married Bill Weime on June 24, 1954. He survives.

Also surviving are her siblings; one son, James Matthew Weime, who resides in Lapu Lapu, Philippines; four grandchildren, Candise Lunger, Isaiah Weime, GraceAnn Watson and Emily Weime; and five great-grandchildren, David, Elle, Embrey and Alistair.

Bill got drafted on June 25, 1954, and stayed for 21 years until he retired as the CSM of 552USAAG, in Soegel, Germany, on June 1, 1977. Leona was Bill’s 5-star Commander and was very helpful in his career, only complaining like army wives do from time to time.

After retiring from the army, they finished building their home outside of Lewistown.

In 1997, she showed symptoms of Parkinson’s.

In August of 2000 they moved to Sierra Vista, Ariz. They had been snowbirds in the area since 1995 and both really enjoyed the area.

She was also a very talented piano player and organist. She played for many years at Lewistown Church of the Nazarene and at Sierra Vista Church of the Nazarene.

While in the Quiburi Mission Nursing and Rehabilitation in Benson, Ariz., she continued to play the piano from time to time.

Services were held Monday at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, Ariz. Hatfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
